I've never written a review about a book before, even though I've read a ton of novels that deserve a brilliant one. This book, though, is different. I almost gave up on it SO many times, and the only reason I kept reading was because the reviews on here were good. I was confused and frustrated and just completely ready to slide it back into the library's drop-box. It wasn't until I was close to page 200 that I realized why the book received such rave reviews. I haven't quite finished it yet (though the coffee is brewing and I'm on a roll), but I already adore it. The characters and the connections are genius. I literally had to close the book several times because it got too intense.

My point is: don't give up on this novel. I almost did, and I would have seriously regretted it.

Read it.

Ugh. The slow build of this one made everything so worth it. The world feels so real and the characters are like my own friends and I just want to cry. This book will leave knots in your stomach and a nostalgic yanking in your heart and it will be so worth it. Melina Marchetta is such a wonderful writer. <3

Can't rate this as I couldn't finish it. Such glowing reviews, I wanted to love it, but just couldn't get into it.

Although the reader is thrown into the middle of the story it seems, by the end, everything is explained and wrapped up. Very well-written and powerful. Lovely lovely read.

I wish I was a tenth as good at evoking emotion through words as Marchetta is. i got confused by this book so I skipped all the italicized bits and it still made me cry. I'm going to have to buy a hard copy so I can reread it properly. it's funny how for me, marchetta's books sneak up on you. they seem very ordinary at first but then there's parts that just punch you right in your feelings and leave you so unexpectedly emotional. they definitely work even better when you reread, because knowing where the emotional punch is coming from kind of helps you see all the intricate and subtle work Marchetta does in the build up and characterization. anyway. jealous of her talent and skill.

Fabulous...just as good, if not better than Saving Francesca. Am looking up this author's other works and placing them on hold as well.

Took awhile to make sense to me, but I really enjoyed figuring out Taylor's mystery. Also obviously enjoyed Skyping with Melina Marchetta! :)
