Honestly even more beautiful on the second read through.

I found this book super confusing at first and I didn't really understand the story but as it continued it all came together. I think it was a good story, but I didn't like how it was presented. The non-linear scenes with the five was super confusing , so that took away a lot of my enjoyment with the book.

Also I just found it quite sad overall.

At the beginning, I was so not convinced. And then I was. I still did not LOVE this book as much as I would have liked to, but it was way better than the beginning had me believing.

Marchetta always seems to hit the nail on the head for me with her characters and their relationships. This one had some particularly lovely turns of phrase that made me sit up and take notice, and I liked the "mystery" element of it a lot. I loved this book.

SpoilerI loved this.

4 stars - i enjoyed this book on the whole, despite being somewhat confusing and not relating to the main character
fast-paced

I had trouble getting into this book and was confused for a good portion of it. I understand the author wanted some mystery, but the premise itself was confusing to me. It did all come together at the end.

This novel was so incredible to me in the way that most books aren't. This was an amazing story and the way it was told was phenomenal. The beginning was confusing, but the way Marchetta writes made even my least favorite parts better than I had expected. The characters are alarmingly memorable and genuine.
