Really needed this read, it’s incredibly indulgent throughout - a cosy mystery in space with pain management. Two icks. First - there’s a hero dog, and whilst even this avowed dog hater found their stony heart melting, there are references to it licking people on the face, smelling of dog and shedding hair. I really, really do not like dogs, especially their smell, so this was pretty grim. Secondly, if you are in recovery, be aware that each chapter starts with a cocktail recipe and wow, they sound great. BUT. The dog really really is very cute, and unlike the book I’ve just read where everyone was drinking absolutely vile sounding cocktails (olive brine martini, anyone?), there’s a very strong air of sophistication to these, only one person gets wasted (boo for them! - they are sort of a baddie), and some of the drinks are zero-proof - which is a great phrase. There’s also a very measured discussion of alcohol consumption at the end. But these are all minor to a very solid plot, an obvious villain and a really strong comfort read.

It's a murder mystery in space. Which is very fun! But the entire space -Mars-Cruise setting felt way too gimmicky and kinda unnecessary. Sometimes all the bits and pieces totally took away from the actual murder.
Was it still entertaining and a good read? Yes. Would I have enjoyed it more if it had been set on a basic ass cruise in the 1920s? Unfortunately, yes.
adventurous dark funny mysterious medium-paced

This book was badly written. The author over explains things without having "respect for the reader."

Enjoyable enough, but no more than that.

This was a fun story. I actually found it a bit stressful near the beginning, when it really seemed like Tesla and Shal were being persecuted, but I also found Tesla acted like the spoiled princess everyone seemed to think she was. After a bit though, it settled down to be much more enjoyable story, and I quite liked Tesla (and Gimlet!) in the end.
SpoilerI thought the ending was a bit rushed though. It all seemed to come together too suddenly, and I was a bit confused about Bob and Wiser's involvement. Who had gotten a pay raise for Bob if Wiser wasn't involved? It seemed like Wiser was not malicious, just incompetent. But it wasn't clear to me.
