I'm not sure yet whether I want to give this 3.5 or 4 stars, but damn this was a rollercoaster.
The book took me months to finish, even tho I think that's more a problem with my attention span and not with the book.
The first half of this book has a very slow pace tho and I honestly did think of dropping the book because of it. I'm glad I didn't cause dayum the second half was a rollercoaster. I did not expect those plot twists. At first I found the timeline switches every few chapters irritating, but in the second half of the book I think they were *really* well implemented.
I really liked the ending. It was happy, but with sad and realistic undertones.

Wow wow wow. I wasn't sure what I was expecting coming into this, but it wasn't that. It was heartbreaking and I was in tears by the end. An impeccable story of grief and loss and pushing everyone you love away. It isn't romanticized. It's presented as is with haunting memories and fear and loneliness. So so powerful with a beautiful ending.

great book about depression and (a person’s) first heartbreak. it was difficult to read the ending through all of the tears.

This is a visceral book about grief. Words unsaid. That's what I keep thinking about as I reflect on this book. They are powerful. They can also be debilitating.

I absolutely loved this book. It was so beautifully written. I had just finished reading Jane Eyre prior to reading this, and it was so well timed because of all of the references. I enjoyed the flashbacks and slowly uncovering the events of the main characters past as she processed them herself too.
Graphic: Death of parent, Mental illness, and Grief
Moderate: Sexual content, Gaslighting, and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Sexual assault and Abandonment
