Good but graphic
It was well - written and had a brutal Faulkneresque or Steinbeckian quality, but this tale of the old South features a great deal of racial violence. The grim content and visceral first chapter of the novel are not alleviated in any way. It felt a little grimdark, and I wished there had been a ray of hope to alleviate it all.
