Read for book club will reread and then update review

Ok I just finished the reread and this is a good book of short stories. I’m not any of the stories really stood out or are memorable but there is a saying I haven’t been able to get out of my head in the book “silly girl you gonna die this way” and I’ve been repeating it to myself every time I feel I’m being asked to erase, minimize, or forsake myself or when I’m settling. I think overall that’s what these stories all have in common. As a woman, (the majority of the protagonists were women), the questions you ask yourself, who are you, what will you accept, what do you want, what are you willing to do to get it? The stories were super relatable and even when they weren’t they made me think more about things and engage more empathy. I recommend this book of short stories to people that enjoy short stories especially with women leads ( I felt like most the protagonists were Black or Afrolatina)

Delicious. Uncomfortable. Bone chilling. Warm. Kinda reminds me of Machado’s stories.

Milk Blood Heat is a stunning story collection by Dantiel W. Moniz. The stories are set in the 'burbs and cities of Florida, most feature young women coming face to face with a difficult choice in their lives. The characters are dealing with racial differences, loss, miscarriage, religious zealotry, sex/power dynamics and more. The stories all expose a truth about our world. I loved the writing and will definitely keep my eye out for more from this author She definitely packs a punch with a sly eye towards society. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by [a:Machelle Williams|15697607|Machelle Williams|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] and I'd give it two thumbs up.

Thank you to the publisher for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
