Talk about raising the stakes! Though like its predecessor, the events in KING OF FOOLS take their time to unfold. Most of the action gives way to characters, relationships, and world building. The characters spend a lot of time in their own heads and hearts, leaving plenty of space between dialogue tags. I found it interesting, especially since we're treated to three perspectives: Enne, Levi, and my beloved Jac. Their storylines all connected, yet diverged so each character got their time to shine. I sympathized with all of them and while I preferred Jac's story the most, I have to say that watching Levi and Enne scramble to control the events that will throw their lives out of order. We were also introduced to some new side characters that I hope to see more of in the future (looking at you, Sophia and Tock!).

The world was built on, though most of the story focused on politics in all its nit and grit. I usually don't mind these kinds of plot lines, though this one didn't hold my interest as much as I hoped. Still, there were a fair amount of action scenes to keep me engaged, and the ending was absolutely crazy. There were more than a few twists and betrayals than I expected, though there was one MAJOR one that didn't click with me as much as it should have. Potentially because this book is very, very long. That said, I don't think it's a bad twist and really want to see where it goes!

And the ending leaves so many questions that I need answered. I would love to go into more details but that would be delving into spoiler territory. All I can say is that the finale will be INTENSE, and I can barely contain my eagerness to see if all the broken things can be repaired, and who will still be alive at the end. This has been a really fun series so far and I can't wait to see the ending unfold!

This was a really good second book in the series. There was so much intrigue, as well as interesting romance, lies, secrets, betrayals, new characters with new gifts, and more. It was cool to have this book pick up immediately after the first one ended, because it helped build a sense of urgency and desperation in both Levi and Enne. I enjoyed reading this, and can't wait to see what the third installment will add to the series.

meh honestly enne and levi are ok on their own but as soon as they start thinking about/talking to each other, they become insufferable. too bad that's like half the book...

I enjoyed this so much more than the first one, I'm pretty much always a second book gal when there is a trilogy so this is fairly unsurprising!

The secondary characters really made it so much more interesting and engaging and the world building and plot were much more interesting. Yes the faux swear words were still annoying (what is muck meant to mean??? I assumed it was a substitute for fuck and shats was shit but they use muck in contexts where fuck would be grammatically wrong??? Make your mind up please, I could have got on board with it if it had a consistent application) Enne became FAR more palatable in this book, was her 'I'm a gang leader now ooh I'm so badass' mentality annoying at time? Absolutely. But her growth was great and while I wasn't super obsessed with the Levi/Enne will they wont they thing being carried on through this book too, I grew to like both characters a bit more so it was far more tolerable. A respectable 3.5 stars, rounded up.

THIS BOOK!!! I loved it almost as much as the first. All the stages that Levi and Enne go through were amazing written, even though I found myself frustrated with some of their conversations (it has nothing to do with the writing and more to do with the fact that Enne made some interesting decisions…) Don’t even get me started on the ENDING!!! I’m not usually one to cry when a character dies, but page 545 absolutely ruined me. Overall, this was a great sequel and I’m incredibly excited to read Queen of Volts:)

I didn't like this quite as much as I liked the first novel. I mean, yay for the girl gang thing (really big yay), but … well, my biggest problem probably was that there seems to be some heavy foreshadowing
SpoilerEnne seeing all those lines/cords/connections but always dismissing them as a figment of her imagination seems like a hint at what she might be able to do - especially as they have never actually explored her Mizer abilities
and unless I'm really, really wrong here, this just seems very heavy handed and horribly drawn out to create tension. Meh.

Wow, it has been a while since I've read the first book of this little series. Yet, I still didn't reread that book and just dove into this one.

King of Fools was a good book. I loved the audio but I have no idea how I would feel if I actually read the ebook or physical at this point. Mostly because I'm at work, super busy (there's absolutely nothing for me to do) and yet.. I'm constantly getting distracted. Super happy I didn't have a buddy for this because I would be making up comments left and right about something super random. Yup. YET, I enjoyed this little book.

The characters were even more amazing than they were in the first book - which is always a good sign for a sequel. I loved seeing Enne, Levi, Lola, and Jac again. I also really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow more with each page/chapter. Plus the endless adventure they were all on definitely took me for a ride.

While seeing all my favorites again, I definitely have a new favorite in this one. Won't mention them thought because then I'm going to down a dark hole and spoil the entire book. Just know that they were what this book needed, even if I wasn't prepared for them one bit.

Overall, I know that there's going to be another book and you should all know that I'm not playing. I will be diving back into the first book and this one once again before that beauty comes into my arms. Or eyes.
