I feel like procrastinating writing my review has rlly fucked me over bc I’m not sure I rlly remember what actually happened in this book except the major plot points, but alas, we move on

This book was pretty slow, whether it’s a result of all the politics, or to cater to how political this book is, but either way, I appreciated the slower pace as it gave me a chance to digest everything that was happening and all of the undertones. Because A LOT happened and sm of it was power plays and political twists. It was rlly interesting seeing how the impact that having her son run against her mentally destroyed Vianka when she seemed so unshakeable in AoS and delighted in all the misfortune that happened to everyone around her. I also loved the introduction of new characters who were often involved in the political plays, like Poppy and Sophia.

I really loved getting the addition of Jac’s chapters, but it also made the inevitable ending so much more painful as I just got so much more attached to him than I had been in Ace of Shades. I grew so attached to him and my heart ached for him every time he mentioned his past trauma in the one-way home and his struggles with addiction. Also, I absolutely adored his friendship with Levi and the way they would both do anything for each other, even when Levi asked Jac for the hardest things, he still went along with it because he would do absolutely anything for Levi, and it just broke me in the end. And his friendship with Lola too!!! I loved their friendly banter, the way that Lola was always there for Jac to listen to his troubles, and the way he teased her about her date with Tock. And the fact that he said he’d listen to her troubles too the next time they met up, but alas :( I just loved him with my whole heart and feared for his fate the entire book, especially whenever he was in a life or death situation, which was, yenno, constantly.

In Ace of Shades, I was very unsure on my feeling towards Enne, because she annoyed me, but I liked when she was ruthless, but I came to absolutely despise her in this book. She was so self-centred and constantly went off about how she couldn’t rely on anyone else to do anything for her, but then, in the same breath, was constantly expecting people to do things for her. She also betrayed Levi by manipulating Vianka into doing what she wanted, which was just truly despicable. And when she bitched and moaned about Levi keeping secrets, whilst keeping her own secrets, b/c ofc it’s okay when perfect little Enne keeps secrets, but god forbid anyone else actually keeps secrets from her for her own good. And when Levi finally told her about Harrison b/c she made such a fuss, and she was like “oh you shouldn’t have told me” YEAH NO FUCKING SHIT ENNE
I truly hated her guts, especially when yenno, she followed Vianka’s orders to “break Levi’s heart” and did the unthinkable and I will literally never forgive her for it, even if she claims that it wasn’t actually her who did it, I will forever hold her accountable.
I did, however, enjoy her girl gang and I rlly loved the rest of the Spirits barring Enne.

I continued to absolutely adore Lola, I just love everything about her, shes so smart and always wants to know more, she’s fierce, even though she can’t fight, and I loved her friendships with the people around her, especially the other Spirits. I really loved that part too that when they got paid, she immediately bought a car and then was so mad with Levi for almost immediately wrecking itr. I absolutely adored her and Tock too, I was so happy to see them together, as Tock was my favourite new character introduced into King of Fools. The fact that we were introduced to Tock by having her tell Levi that he was “more attractive in his wanted posters” had me immediately sold on her, and my favourite part was when she called him a “hustler and a harlot”. She absolutely had my heart, and I really loved seeing her friendship with Levi develop as his third and I really loved the way he became fond of her and started looking out for her too.

Lastly, I really love Levi !!! I wish he’d just move on from Enne tbh b/c he deserves sm better, and just personal opinion, but “falling” for her in just 10 days seemed a bit extreme considering she was literally the most obnoxious person ever, but ig she did also save his life. I absolutely loved his friendships with Jac and Tock, and I loved seeing him grow back into his role as Iron Lord. Obviously the end broke me, but yenno.

Overall, my favourite book of this series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
