Alyson and Carrie both nominated this book for our Mock Sibert Award, so I knew it was a book I had to read. After requesting that my library purchase it, I was so happy to finally receive the book. This book is beautiful. Each aspect of the book can stand alone: the poetry is full of imagery and figurative language, the informational aspects are interesting and fact-based, and the illustrations are exceptional and bring the animals to life.

Beautiful poems and beautifully illustrated. I learned a lot I didn't know. I do wish there was a poem about the fox though! Read for grad school for my Lit & Resources for Children class.

A picture book enjoyable for any age, it offers exquisite hand colored linoleum block illustrations, imaginative poems of lyrical cadence, and fascinating paragraphs educating us on ways nature behaves in the winter.

This book has great illustrations that pair with the poems. There are a lot of words so it could be easily overwhelming for younger readers, I would suggest readers to be 8 or 9 years old. The book discusses different animals and things that have to do with an area with a cold climate. This could be a great book to use sections of when talking about different climates, ecosystems, or winter.
