🌿 Graphic Novel Review 🌿
Poison Ivy, Vol. 1: The Virtuous Cycle by G. Willow Wilson & Marcio Takara
Pamela Isley—aka Poison Ivy—has been many things: scientist, villain, eco-warrior, and even dead. In this visually striking and emotionally charged reboot, she's reborn with a new body, mission, and one terrifying goal: save the planet by ending humanity.
Why I Recommend It (Mostly):
This is a bold, horror-tinged exploration of Poison Ivy's psyche, motivations, and grief. G. Willow Wilson dives deep into themes of environmental collapse, activism, and identity, while Marcio Takara's art brings a lush, haunting aesthetic to Poison Ivy's world. Some panels are stunning—others, less so (not always a fan of how Pam was drawn). The Lovecraftian body horror vibe won't be for everyone, and the plot does start to feel repetitive mid-way through. Still, this is worth picking up if you're drawn to complex antiheroes, darker stories, and eco-political themes. Serious in tone, light on humor, heavy on atmosphere.

The time for heroes is over. What we need now are assassins. Saboteurs. Revolutionaries. People who are not afraid to defend what is left of the Earth. With violence when necessary. Justice is not coming. But retribution may still be within reach.
Poison Ivy is the latest new character I've become curious to explore during me recent stint of getting more into comic books.
Considering I grew to love Swamp Thing just a year ago, I figured Poison Ivy was probably gonna be another good fit for me. I do have a huge soft-spot for the brooding eco-warrior type and Poison Ivy - at least at the start of this series - seems to be going the full-on misanthropic antihero route of being dead-set on eradicating the human parasite that is destroying Earth. I was down for this right from the get-go.
Add to that the genuinely decent writing and beautifully disgusting artwork inspired by rot and fungi, and you have an easy win in my book.
I am very excited to read the rest of the currently available trade paperbacks to catch up the issues and then read them as they come out. This was an incredibly fun first impression and this character immediately became a new favorite.
