I remember when I found the anime years ago. I was obsessed with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, so I looked for something inspired by the fairy tale. I watched the anime first and I have to say that I totally fell in love with Oz Vessalius and the plot really got me hooked so I had to continue reading the manga. To this day, this is my favourite manga of all times and I spend my days recommending it to everyone. Really, it is that great. It is true that at the beginning it's a bit confusing, in fact, it keeps being so until the final retraces, but I think that's why I love it so much. Plus, those plot twists. I can't.

Let's not talk about the characters. I think I am in love with each one of the characters of Pandora Heart and I love the relationship (platonic or not, I don't care) between them.

Now that I'm reading it for the second time, I'm just noticing things I didn't before and I'm totally understanding some things that are said... and woah. Seriously, I love Pandora Hearts.

It was a little confusing at first, but the reader is right there with the characters so I'm not too upset with it, and you do end up getting a sense of what is going on in this world. My favorite Character at the moment is Alice, then though her personality changes a lot.

Is it just me or are there a lot of Alice and Wonderland feels in the Abyss? Like a darker, deadlier Alice in Wonderland.

It should be noted that this is a 3 with potential rather than a generous or begrudged 3. I think this series could become very interesting very quickly but for right now I'm still a bit confuzzled at its plot. For me, I like to understand my plots pretty well.

Oz is a young rich boy about to come of age, which involves a fancy ceremony at age 15. He is pretty uninterested in this, to all of the adults' dismay. They want their "prince" to recognize his future responsibility. He'd rather play with his younger sister and servant Gil, who is pretty clearly his best friend. His father is essentially never around, and he looks at his uncle as more of a father figure as a result. While playing prior to the ceremony, he stumbles into an underground space and finds a watch. The watch launches him into another dimension, where he meets a strange girl. It freaks him out a bit and he manages to come back to reality.
SpoilerSomewhere in this I believe Gil is either killed and his body used by a bad dude or possessed. I'm hoping the latter- I liked Gil and would like the real Gil to be able to come back.
(I should note the watch also seems to randomly play this melody that he recognizes.)

Ceremony happens, and these hooded figures come out. They sentence Oz to the Abyss, a place he thought to be a mythical prison, but is really an alternate dimension full of a variety of creepy things, including the girl from earlier. We learn she is known as Alice or B-rabbit, depending on who you talk to. She is a "chain"- a creature born/created within in the abyss and therefore unable to enter this reality (due to an inability to stabilize in this dimension) without a contractor. Alice convinces Oz to contract with her in order to escape the Abyss. He wakes up in the house of Sharon-chan, a pretty girl he'd met earlier who is of the right "upbringing". With her is a blond gent called Break. Turns out he and Sharon want to know more about the Abyss and Alice (who they call B-rabbit). Alice wanted to come to this dimension in order to find her lost memories. They are now all in a position where they must help one another. Confusing? Yes. Interesting? Yes. I will probably read at least another couple in the series to figure out if I want to continue on (and see if I can get un-confused.)
