I gasped when I found out Mr Baddock was married with Marina

Switched to audiobook part way through because my edition was an older one and had some 'of the time' lines that weren't even relevant to the story (a scene of a young couple having an argument and using the g-slur was in there randomly too. The characters didn't even appear again in the story!) Probably would have given it a higher rating if I hadn't watched the episode and known 'whodunnit' before starting it.

Miss Marple investigates the murder of a local woman at a charity fĂȘte hosted by a celebrated film star who has moved into the area.  Why would anyone kill the slightly annoying but essentially kind Mrs Heather Badcock? Was the poison intended for someone else?

It's all very intriguing and Miss Marple, despite her advancing years and increasing reliance on carers to help with her physical needs, is as mentally sharp as ever. I was fascinated by the character of Marina Gregg, the volatile and in some ways rather tragic middle aged actress and I was curious to find out more about her, so it was very easy to keep turning the pages.

Despite there being a few too many coincidences, it's an inspired plot and the ending really packed quite a punch. I was literally in the final few pages when I 'solved' the mystery. An enjoyable read.

This was an interesting read. The storyline was different from her other books and even though I guessed the murderer pretty early on it was still quite intriguing since I wanted to know why she was killed.
Marina Gregg made perfect sense imo, since she was super fixated on the word child early on so I guessed that she killed heather because of something related to children I just didn't know exactly what.
however there were some misogynistic lines in this book and it was overall quite ableist.
