I was sadly disappointed with the ending of this series. When I first read Kingdom of the Wicked I fell in love with the characters and the world. I was excited that she was transitioning the series from YA to NA and now I kind of wish that never happened. I found that Kingdom of the Feared was a book with adult-worthy spice but young adult plot. The story was lackluster and rushed, it felt as if we were sprinting for the finish line. There was so much that needed to be tied up and resolved by the beginning that a lot of plot points felt like it was glossed over or never mentioned just to get to the end. I can imagine that writing sequels to match the ✨magnificence✨ of the first is extremely difficult, but I found that once I had finished Kingdom of the Feared I wanted something more while simultaneously glad that the series had come to an end.
I did enjoy witnessing Wrath’s and Emilia’s relationship change from book to book (enemies to lovers ❤️‍

I’m reviewing something I DNF’d, which is out of character for me. Maybe it’s my own fault for either a) clinging onto the reading hangover still from Fourth Wing or b) not at least reading the synopsis of the last two books, since I could not remember anything from the previous story. I almost felt like this was just smut with no plot tying the smut scenes together. Or maybe it was banking on you remembering where you left off and then the non sex scenes would have more of an impact? I apparently loved the last book, so maybe if I ever do a reread and then read this one immediately following #2 I’ll like it better. But maybe not.

Review:

This book fell terribly flat to me. The plot was all over the place. I felt like there was no true character development. Sure, Emilia found her power and became Fury again, but that was really it. It was as if the author said, "Here have this." and Emilia went

It just felt so repetitive and I was bored even though we finally got the spice.

2/5 stars

Description: Well, there are more mysteries in hell to solve every day. Emilia now has to solve 2 'murders': her sisters and one of the prince's generals. She also has to decide if she's marrying Wrath and what their relationship will look like. Oh and of course, what about Emilia's past? Everything has to come wrapped up in this series final, including everything newly introduced int his book. Does Kerri do it?

The good:
- honestly the world is fantastically interesting to me, the princes, the other creatures, all seem interesting
- I think this had some of the most interesting plot points throughout the entire series but...

The loss of 3 stars:
- ...the pacing was SO WEIRD. I almost wish we got some of the worldbuilding in book 2. It felt so RUSHED.
- I WISH there was more fade to black scenes, not because the spicier scenes were bad, but because i wanted the plot more fleshed out. The balance felt completely off.
- I am still a strong Emilia hater. I also feel the second mystery Emilia elects to solve in this book was unnecessary.

Overall: I don't know honestly. I'm glad it's over. Will I look into the adult book? Honestly, maybe because it's focused on a new perspective in the same interesting world...as long as Emilia is gone.
