Loved this book. Favorite part "WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN BEING RIGHT OR BEING KIND, CHOOSE KIND."

I've read this book three time (once with my class) and it continues to be a great young adult read. My students got so much out of this book. Can't recommend enough.

I loved this book, which children in the program where I work are reading this summer. I thought the messaging was great, without the book's being preachy. The tone, like the "message," was kind. I liked the perspective of the different characters. I liked that the book was set in make-believe NY, and I felt like the parents were people I knew. I think, most of all, I liked the cover! As I carried it around, people asked about it (why one eye/face missing?) and it prompted some conversations about kindness. I am curious what the kids will think!

Superb book. One that should be on the curriculum, dealing with intolerance and acceptance, bullying and disfigurement.

Wonderful narrator in Auggie, and good chapters and views from other characters and family members filling in the picture.

Makes you question your own views on disfigurement.

Very well-written, well paced and a beautiful ending. Tissues will be needed.

I'd probably go 4.5. Yeah, close to 5 but something's holding me back. Not sure what...

Anyway, I listened to the audio book with my 10-year old. We're used to reading fantasy or adventure books together so this was a big departure. We did make several comments to each other while reading about how depressing it was but we both agree that it is an incredibly moving book and that all kids 10 and up and all parents should read it. It should be required.
