Pretty engaging novel about the Children of the Nephilim who are engaged in a troubled peace with Downworlders (werewolves, vampires, faeries, etc...) and more importantly trying to keep one of their own using the Mortal Cup (the cup the angel Raziel used to create the Nephilim by mixing the blood of angels and men) to both create more Nephilim, whose numbers have been declining, and wipe all downworlders from existence rather than bother with bothersome peace accords. City of Bones offers much in the way of atmospheric sets and fairly well rounded characters, but maybe what I dig the most about Cassandra Clare's novel is that she manages to reference two of my favorite anime series, Trinity Blood and Trigun! I look forward to reading more tales of the Shadowhunters.
