BUT BAD
BUT BAD
I made the mistake of starting this book right before going to sleep and I instantly got sucked in and was up most of the night reading this story. It captured my attention from the very first page and as the story continued, I fell in love with these two broken characters and their story.
Lex is strong and she has come to accept her life and the fact that everyone always ends up leaving her. You can’t help but love her character and want to cheer for her and want her to find her HEA. Carter is a loner, he has given up on love and has walls up to protect himself. The moment Lex and Carter meet there is an instant connection, even if Carter was kind of a jerk early on. However, Carter does have a sweet side and that does eventually come out. I loved the two of them together and was really rooting for them.
There are plenty of characters throughout this story that cause trouble and you just instantly dislike *cough cough Candace*, then you have characters that I just kind of loved to hate, like Silas (who I am super excited about having his own story). I loved everyone else who worked at the estate with Lex and instantly made her feel welcome there, especially when Carter was being a jerk.
The Estate is emotional, it is angsty and there is plenty of drama throughout the story.

The Estate by Ivy Wild was long and complicated. I say complicated because while I'm not a huge fan of 3rd person narrative, sometimes it works. It kind of worked in this one but it took a long, looooong time to get used to how quickly the narrative switched between the FMC and MMC. I mean, sometimes it happened every other paragraph and that was very distracting having to figure out who was talking or thinking at the moment. Also, the timeline was a bit strange. It goes back and forth and seemed to jump all over the place at times. We're in the present then it switches back a year or two then back to the present, and again and again. While this works with some stories, this one would've been much more cohesive with an extended prologue or something.
Regardless, I DID enjoy this emotional story about two troubled souls with walls built so high around their hearts it took each other to tear them down. Both had been wronged in their lives. Both had gone through some form of trauma/pain. But while Lex remained her sweet, outgoing, optimistic self, Carter turned in to himself and became a right prick. I really liked Lex. She had been handed a hard life but she used her optimism to push forward and that is such a redeeming quality in a FMC. Carter was of course swoony, sexy, and a bit alpha, but his reservations were a bit long-winded and he wasn't the nicest to Lex.
Like I said before, this is a long book. It's angsty, emotional, and has a dark theme running through it that isn't really "dark," but rather "heavy." My feelings for both characters and their story was all over the place. But credit must be given because despite the narrative and length, I was enamored with Lex and Carter's romance and I NEEDED to finish it.

What an amazing surprise this was, very emotional, intense, swoony. Lex and Carter's story the two of them so broken yet perfect for each other. This emotional rollercoaster full of drama, and passion, will have you reading it non-stop, the first on the Kings of Capital series and I can't wait for more to come. This one hooked me and never let me go, that audiobook was well narrated by Kaylie Williams, I suggest you get the audio is such a different experience.

I don’t think I’ve struggled to keep going with a book in a while. That dragged
Let’s start out with the book is very good and you’ll get swept up in the story once you begin and the author tells a very emotional and heavy story for the characters and you’ll want to know how it goes for them.
The blurb for this book captured my attention but the story is what captured my heart! This book had me hanging on every word and so enthralled with the story I hated putting it down, I was so consumed!
“I’ve never chased after anything. Not money, not deals and not women. I never even chased my own fucking dream, Lex. You’re the first thing I’ve chased after.” He smirked. “And by that, I do mean by car, horse and through the fucking woods."
Carter is the domineering, broody CEO that has been through hell and back with a cold, conniving father, gold digging bitch of a wife and a tragic event that changes everything! Lex was the hardworking, successful lawyer who was trying to prove herself, until one deal had it all crashing down around her. Carter and Lex met by chance and again by fate but the journey to be together was not an easy road. As they say nothing in life worth having comes easy!
“Learning to trust is like learning to walk . Falling down and getting hurt is just part of the process,”
This story was addicting with its angst and scorching chemistry that I couldn't help but fall in love with this sexy as sin, page turner that absolutely had me on an emotional, turbulent ride until I was swooning by the very end!

Alexandra Evanston has come to the Estate to start her life again after she was forced to give it all up for discovering the truth on something she wasn't supposed to. She was the fall guy and as much as it hurts she's ready for a new beginning.
Carter Ross is a successful man and has been running the company his grandfather began and rebuilding it after his father almost destroyed it. He has his walls built high around him due to his past relationships with certain people that almost destroyed him.
When Alex begins working for Carter she hopes this is the new start she has been after but soon she realizes she could be in trouble with her heart as well. Will Alex risk another heartbreak or will she get out while she can?
This was a great book that I enjoyed from start to finish and I loved some of the twists that I wasn't expecting!
I loved Alex and I hated what happened to her at the beginning of the book to her. I liked that she was given some help finding a new job but I wondered how it was going to go once they discovered who each other was. There was obvious chemistry between the two of them and I knew that could only go two ways.
Carter was a lot more complicated and we begin to discover how much baggage he really has as the book goes on and things are revealed that I really wasn't expecting. Carter definitely had walls built up around him and it was very understandable and I wondered how close he was going to let Alex get to him.
There was so much chemistry between the two of them evident from the first moment they met each other but they both had their guard down. Then after that there was so much tension between the two of them as you knew what they were both thinking of and remembering.
I was totally shocked when we meet a certain person from Carter's past as I have no idea how he could have gone along with the decisions that were made for him. She was so vindictive and I knew that there wasn't anything that she wouldn't do to get what she wanted.
I liked that it was Alex who began to look deeper into certain things although I felt awful for what she initially discovered. I was glad that Carter opened up to her about why he wasn't aware of what happened.
Holy twist at the office and I was not expecting what happened at all but I wasn't surprised with who was all involved. Yet then there was another huge shocker and I was so mad at Carter again!!!
I loved the person that really helped Alex and then later on Carter as she was such a key person to both of them when they needed advice.
I thought Alex's idea at the end was brilliant and I loved how they pulled it off!!
The very end was awesome and I do hope we get to visit these characters again!!

Carter and Lex, two beautifully broken souls that meet and fireworks go off. But their meeting is not all sunshine and rainbows especially with outside influences try to work against them. Carter and Lex have to fight for their happiness every step of the way.
Let’s not forget about how hot their chemistry is and those HOT as SIN scenes *fans self*.... You get to see these two characters grow over the course of the book and have a beautiful ending.
Cater and Lex’s story is very well written and gives you all the feels. Definitely tugs at your heart. I am looking forward to reading every story Ivy creates

This. Was. Beautiful!
Lex & Carter 2 broken souls. 1 who always gets left behind, looking for a fresh start after their world implodes and the other who always does for others and sacrifices their sanity and own happiness.
Haven’t read a lot of Ivy’s work and I’m so glad I got my hands on this, it had all the emotions and some steamy scenes
