This book would be better described as the experience of grief and trying to learn more about someone after their death. There is not so much a plot as there is a process, and it can be as absurd and at times inconclusive as life is. A byproduct of the story is learning more about how Vietnamese society has changed over the years since the war, which was interesting enough in and of itself. There is some offbeat humor interspersed that I enjoyed as well. However, I am unsure if there would be any reread value personally.

this book is moody and disorienting, in a good way - unreliable narrator, unreliable memory, the uncertainty of whether we really know anyone as well as we might believe.
