Utter perfection

REVIEW
cw: childhood abandonment, foster care, depression, mention of self-harm
When Lena Santos' Christmas plans change, she returns home to Juniper for the holidays. The last person she expects to see is Gavin Moore, her brother's best friend and the man she's long pined for. But as they become reacquainted, secrets are revealed.

This book WRECKED me in the best possible way. I didn’t think I could love these characters anywhere near as much as I loved Millie and Finn, but they very quickly burrowed deep into my heart. Gavin was so sweet, so caring, and such a cinnamon roll. His backstory was so well-written, and heartbreakingly poignant because it was so realistic. Lena was as adorable and sassy as in the previous story, but I really loved getting to know her and her wonderful family on a deeper level in this book. But the mutual pining... Oh my! Is there anything better than years of pining? Why yes! Mutual pining. For ten years. It was sublime, and I'm now crowning Jillian Meadows the Queen of Pining™.

My heart was literally aching for them to be together by the end, and I sobbed both happy and sad tears over the course of the story. The tattoos were such a sweet touch. Gavin had my heart from the start, but I'll happily let Lena have him, knowing how happy they made each other. He deserved the world. They were SO stinking cute together, but I loved their respective POVs just as much. Their chemistry was palpable throughout, and the intimacy was hot, but also beautifully written. There were also plenty of lighter moments, and some genuinely laugh out loud scenes. The audiobook scene was hilarious. I adored the supporting characters, and particularly the ones who could see what the main characters were oblivious to, so I loved Luci and Bea, Zara, and Gavin and Joe. But I also adored the friendships between Gavin and Auggie, and Lena, Millie, Emil and Micah. And that epilogue? I had a feeling that thing was going to happen, but I still squealed happily.

In case anyone is in any doubt. This was utter perfection.

I’m not quite sure why the FMC couldn’t tell her family she lost her job - why was that a big dark secret? I do give this one bonus points for not quite being insta-love. The love interest knew each other for 10 years before getting together…just ignore the fact that she was 19 and he was 29 when they first met and you should be fine.

superrrr cute and an addicting read, I couldn’t put it down!!!

It is not often that I read holiday romances, but I just felt like trying it out this year. This is your typical small town Christmas romances with an age gap but it was still cute and enjoyable.

The first thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was that it felt instant lovey. I understand that the two main characters knew each other prior to the beginning of this book, but as a reader, I just felt disconnected from that information and therefore it felt like an insta-love romance.

However, I still found that they had a lot of really cute, romantic moments, and I love their interactions. I found that Gavin was sometimes a little too perfect to be real (yes I know he’s fictional, but I still expect some realism).
