I think I might've enjoyed it more if it was a little sped up, and if
more crimes were committed than just the one murder that was already described at the start of the book

But still, the writing was lovely, and the description of a psychotic and totally unreliable narrator was wonderful. I did find the ending a little confusing at first, as
I wasn't sure if Julian was actually dead or not, or if Paul got institutionalized or not, and it was rather vague and confusing
but after a little while, I did understand the reference that Julian put in his letter.

Ok, is it no plot just vibes? Maybe, but just imagine only bad vibes. A book full of red flags, no joke, if you know, you know. Paul and Julian both need to get over themselves already, you’re both not that great ok? What great prose, such a depressing book about the terrible things people can convince themselves to do and it’s so well written. Would not recommend, but had an interesting time reading it.

God I love an unreliable narrator and god does this book give you just that. The author's note provides so much context for the plot I wish I'd read it first before diving in because the tone of this novel is just so wretched the whole way through I almost couldn't finish it; I'm still not quite sure how I feel but I am glad I persevered because I grew so fiercely protective of Julian lmao

It wasn't until the last act that the true nature of Paul and Julian's dynamic began to make sense, and the feeling of their increasingly frantic desperation to reach each other is visceral. A perfect depiction of teen angst at its absolute worst, the clearest way I can think to explain the reading experience of this book is to think of the narrative as just one long intrusive thought. Incredible.
