I think I might've enjoyed it more if it was a little sped up, and if
more crimes were committed than just the one murder that was already described at the start of the book

But still, the writing was lovely, and the description of a psychotic and totally unreliable narrator was wonderful. I did find the ending a little confusing at first, as
I wasn't sure if Julian was actually dead or not, or if Paul got institutionalized or not, and it was rather vague and confusing
but after a little while, I did understand the reference that Julian put in his letter.

Two disaffected queer Jewish teens are drawn into each other’s arms and pull each other down a dark path from which neither can escape. That’s the most I can say without spoiling things. This book is dark as hell. It also pulled off a rare feat. The story could’ve been very pulpy and quick paced. Like the story itself feels like it could’ve been a snappy, dark, Palahniuk book. But instead, it really focused on the interior lives of the characters and stayed quite literary from start to finish. The characters were also incredibly  fascinating, despite, and often because of their maladaptive  thoughts and behavior. And the writing still made me root for them when they were doing despicable things. The prose is gorgeous as well. The ending is jaw dropping. Highly recommend it.

Ok, is it no plot just vibes? Maybe, but just imagine only bad vibes. A book full of red flags, no joke, if you know, you know. Paul and Julian both need to get over themselves already, you’re both not that great ok? What great prose, such a depressing book about the terrible things people can convince themselves to do and it’s so well written. Would not recommend, but had an interesting time reading it.
