3.75+. A solid mini with solid art. Feels like a story that should have been told at least 15 years ago but I’m glad it finally is in the world.

With a message of love, light, and empowerment, this is a book that is likely to be a beacon for even more fans of the original Green Lantern.

I loved this story about the Green Lantern. I admit that I really don't know much about this character. This is a story of forbidden love, blackmail, and Alan's struggle with the belief that way he feels about a military romance is 'not normal' yet feels so right. In the time period this is set, all of this makes sense as same gender romantic relationships were not accepted and even thought of as being mental illness. Like many superheroes, his love is lost to him yet he's blackmailed (by J. Edgar Hoover no less!) to join the Justice group. I don't want to spoil this because it's not only about love and loss, feeling like an outsider (isn't that true of all of the superheroes in one way or another), and facing even worst betrayals. My rating is 5 stars.
My only complaint is that Alan’s speech to Hoover at the end felt pretty weird. Since, if he was willing to stand up against bigotry, why didn’t he do that anyways if even if he wasn’t outed? I know his life would’ve really difficult but it’s supposed to be a heroes’ job to stand up and fight for the ones that can’t.
Still, DC GIVE TIM ANOTHER LANTERN BOOK, not just a short story on an anthology
