I loveeee this series, and while this wasn't my favorite "Ernest Cunningham" book, it was still a fun little holiday special to tide me over while I wait for the next full-length novel. I liked getting to experience Christmas from an Aussie perspective (meaning, in the midst of a blazing-hot summer), and the novel manages to have a holiday vibe without ever feeling hokey and Hallmarky.
I always enjoy reading from Ern's wisecracking POV, but I will say that the cast of suspects didn't feel as strong as the previous two books. Perhaps because this novella was so short (only 175 pages), but I didn't feel like I got to know them as well, and some of the character kept blurring together for me. Also, the ending felt SUPER abrupt—like a hastily wrapped Christmas present—as there's almost zero denouement. Ultimately still fun, but missing some of the post-action wrap up I would've liked to see.
Ultimately, still a fun installation, and I'm excited for the next in the series! 3.5/5

I really enjoyed this one!!! I love that Ernie and Erin are still friends and how Andy booking a magician for a wedding is plausible. Can't wait for the next one :)
