A fun holiday romp, and the first one from this series that is not a locked room mystery.

After solving two flashy murders + books, Ernest is now a local celebrity with a gossip blogger who likes to follow him around. Ernest comes to the rescue when his ex Erin calls for help getting her out of jail. Her rich philanthropist boyfriend was found brutally murdered in their home and she was covered in his blood, but she maintains that she was asleep when it happened. So Ernest heads to the foundation's gala to see a magic show and to try to solve the murder. This is a novella, though, so the second murder comes along quickly.

I had picked up on some clues early and thought "hm this would be a good way to do X" but the second murder really was imaginative.
