Sums up the book, I suppose. These characters broke my heart, as they were supposed to. The generational trauma of indigenous communities in Canada is so hard to read about... but that says nothing of how hard it is to experience, to live, to try and overcome. I love how complex these characters were - lovable, even though most of them make mistake after mistake and I just wanted to shake them and tell them to stop.
I love that Vermette told us what happened to Sparrow. I do still want to know what Phoenix did, but wonder if that's in The Break, or whether it's being saved for a different novel...

I have not read "the break" however I found this book to be a nice read. Although. if you are considering reading this book actually read because the audiobook is just not going to because of the constant swearing on like every page.
