This was sadder than The Break but, like the Break, extraordinary compelling. And it will make you want to read The Break again. I could barely put it down and read it in about two days. It's also a must-read for understanding the terrible continuities between residential schools--which are not mentioned in the book but loom large--and the child welfare system and criminal justice system in Canada, especially in the Prairies.
