I did have a good time but by the end it did become so ridiculously far fetched that I couldn’t cope. I really loved Vuk, he was morally grey, gruff but sweet and completely obsessed from the start (don’t really know why apart from it being a bit inst love at first sight but that didn’t bother me). I liked Ayana and enjoyed seeing her take back her power. I also liked the twist on the marriage of convenience trope that was included. The idea of her difficulties with the agency and the brotherhood stuff had so much potential. However it felt like it was dragged out a little and just became so over the top that I found myself being taken out of the story. I did love the cat but that also became another thing I just couldn’t help but laugh at. Overall this was a good time but could have been a bit shorter and maybe slightly less far fetched.

My first Ana huang book(probably my last), came into this book liking the characters and themes. Then I hit a wall in the middle where I struggled to finish(especially during the brotherhood sections). What this book excels in is the environmental storytelling. That tbh was the reasoning I kept going, like I found it more interesting to read about what the modeling life was and how Ayana got her start. Don’t get me wrong I like vuk and ayana, but not enough to read about them again. Lastly the book suffers from to much chapters syndrome.(many chapters were so short and did nothing for the plot or characters)

This was intense for sure. Maybe not my FAVORITE FAVORITE of Ana’s books, but definitely up there if you’re a fan. Vuk is such an intense, interesting character and I enjoyed his moments of sarcasm and banter with Ayana. I wish there had been a bit more with Jordan and his story near the end of the book. I am definitely looking forward to Maya and Sebastian! As always, I love the various Easter eggs and crossovers from the Anaverse…it’s all so intricately woven together and it’s fun to find the connections.

This book was decidedly not for me. Apparently I like my MMCs a few shades lighter of morally grey than Vuk.  Sure, some of the copious violence Vuk doled out was in self-defense. But a lot more was just cold-blooded murder, even if it was as a form of retribution. I had zero interest in the mafia-esque underworld Vuk inhabited, and the violence was far too gratuitous in my eyes. I guess I have a hard time enjoying a romance when the MMC is not someone I could respect or would ever consider dating, and Vuk was a walking red flag. And for her part, Ayana got over Vuk's sordid past awfully quickly. Apparently she didn't care that his past could come calling for him at any moment, or that he was a stone cold killer as long as he, like, didn't kill any MORE people from then on. Delulu to the max. I'll finish the Kings of Sin series, but I'm hoping our next MMC is a little less murdery.

Giving 1 star instead of 0 because the tension between FMC and MMC was fairly good and the writing was decent.
