After reading Vicious & Vengeful and then The Invisible Life of Addie LeRue, I was expecting a lot more than this book delivered on. I really liked each individual aspect of this book, but it didn’t come together well at all.

More like a 3.75.
A very compelling concept! I enjoyed so many aspects of this book, especially Schwab’s writing. The mystery was interesting, but it all felt so predictable, and after a certain point I no longer felt myself as drawn in. Overall, enjoyed this read though and I’m glad it’s just a short simple read!

Like V.E. Schwab's other books, this is very beautifully written. Unfortunately, the plot felt like there was nothing much there. It's a short, quick read, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.

I wanted it to be a little more mystical but it was a good story. Olivia is a character I can see, feel, she's tricky and traumatized. In another world, an AU , and my personal headcannon Olivia is a great great great grandmother to Galaxy Stern from Leigh Bardugos Ninth House.

The story did not absorb me as much as I wanted it too. I would have either DNFd or finished and given ⭐️⭐️⭐️. I only rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because the audiobook narrator is freaking fantastic.

Updating this as I read:
It's like a dark fairytale that will always come back to haunt the reader. 5/5
1. I LOVE EDGAR AHHHHH!
2. The ending makes me cry everytime
3. Death is a bitch and the dancers made me cry
4. I'm glad Oliva found a home
5. If Oliva had done nothing MATTHEW WOULD LIVE!

V.E. Schwab is slowly becoming one of my all time favorite authors. Her writing is incredible and her characters are so well thought out. Olivia has so much character development throughout the book, and the family history is insane. The idea of a shadow world is so scary, but so interesting. This book is an automatic reread for me, and you all need to add it to your list.
