A slice-of-life story about three Ramirez women coping with the loss of Ruthy who disappeared at 13, and hope drives them to track her down when they believe they’ve found her years later on a raunchy reality TV show.

This was very light-hearted and humorous overall despite covering some tough topics. It was also heartbreaking at times. I listened to the author’s narration, and I think she did a good job conveying the dialogue and frequent family banter amongst the women.

The story was as much the study of a shattered family trying to move past the void of losing Ruthy (whether to her choice of running away or something more sinister), as it was a mystery of finding out what happened to her. I found it engrossing and look forward to more from this author, although the ending might not provide enough closure for some readers.

I felt at home reading this book. Jiménez’s writing is raw and authentic, setting up scenes that many Puerto Rican daughters and mothers experience as they’re simply trying to figure out life together. I couldn’t put the book down because I felt an intimate sisterhood with all three of the Ramirez sisters and wanted desperately to learn what happened to Ruthy. This novel is a beautiful portrayal of inter-generational womanhood and both the joy and heartbreak that comes with it.

To everyone saying that there’s too much cursing. It takes place on Staten Island. The cursing capital of the USA.

The writing style of this book is very young YA.  It's not well written.  It feels realistic, but it doesn't feel compelling.  There's a lot of important things in here that never get discussed or dealt with properly, such as prior child abuse.  The plot of this book was not well developed.  Everything really just felt like an excuse for the author to insert real life conversations she'd heard/had into a book.

I found this book hard to keep up with because of the different points of view and different timelines. I feel like at times it made it so I lost sight of the purpose of me reading the book, finding out what happened to Ruthy
