This one and "Ramona and her Mother" and probably the two in the series I remembered most vividly, and neither of them disappoint on a reread. This final book feels like the perfect finale - it has a great mix of Ramona antics (the ceiling scene makes me cackle), her dealing with growing up, and classic Quimby family moments. I genuinely felt like crying when finishing this because it brought back how much these books meant to me as a kid. :,)

I'm truly sad there are no more Ramona books for Mini-Me and I to read together. A great trip down memory lane for me, and a joy to see her enjoy Ramona's adventures for the first time.

I still say it's a complete impossibility that a Ramona book exists that I didn't read 8,000 times before puberty.
This one didn't disappoint. I read it in about an hour, foregoing food and phone calls because I was insistent that it had to get read right now. So cute! Ramona is at her best in this one, honestly. She's not near the brat she was in the other books. Beezus is adorable with her first party. I understand completely Ramona's desire to have a best friend, and I was really worried Cleary would create conflict between them. Just perfectly told. And awww, Yard Ape <3's Ramona.
I love it. I wish there were more I hadn't read yet. I'd resigned myself to no new Ramona books ever, and knowing there was one I missed makes me irrationally sad.

Well, if I hadn't before, I've read them all now... From start to finish, the series was published over 44 years. The first one in 1955 and this one in 1999. Honestly, I would be perfectly content with another Ramona book, or ever just knowing what Yard Ape had written in the note he tried to give her. :-D

It's bittersweet to come to the last page in the last Ramona book. My 4-year-old daughter comforted me by pointing out that we still have the Ralph S. Mouse and Henry Huggins books to read. On to the next, but not without loving thoughts for Beverly Cleary, who has deeply affected the last three generations of my family and their reading lives.
