Wow, this was fantastic! I haven’t read any of TJR’s books prior to this, although I’ve certainly seen them everywhere, but I will definitely seek out more of them if they are as good as this. I loved Carrie, even when I didn’t like her that much, and could appreciate how closely her experience likely aligns with the real life experiences of female athletes who are forced to balance drive and a killer instinct with being approachable and likeable.

A thoroughly enjoyable page turner.

✨Carries had retired from tennis due to a knee injury, but she returns when her records threaten to be broken.

i really love the way TJR writes characters, i feel like i say that every time i read one of her books but it’s true! i always feel like i’m reading about real people. i loved each character and really loved the dynamic between carrie and her dad, and with bowe. also learned a little about tennis which i enjoyed :)

Reid knows how to write a book. does she write literature? no. but she writes stories that are compelling and gripping. she invests you into her characters. my heart was racing a lot of the time, bc she created the tension of watching a competition unfold. you can see how the other three books in this universe enabled her to write this zinger - she has developed an immense capacity for creating complex characters. that being said, there were weak points - using media snippets to bridge together the plot felt lazy - like in malibu rising, the plot twist in this book wasn’t as jarring as seven husbands and daisy jones (honestly, not even sure what the plot twist was in this one. though i can guess, but it was that mellow). overall, i’m happy i read this book and i am sad it’s over. i hope she brings us something new soon!
