The ego of the athlete…or is it the necessary confidence to succeed?

Taylor Jenkins Reid writes riveting stories. They capture you since the get-go and reel you in. This is the story of an athlete, and the struggle and judgment she has to go through simply for being a laser focused female wanting to succeed. Yes, the FMC is an unlovable character, but the story shows you why. And even if with this explanation, you still don’t like her, you will UNDERSTAND her.

Fantastic!  I was going to give this five stars, but there were too many Spanish phrases that were never translated.  A few you can figure out, but a long argument was indecipherable.  Would it have been so hard to add what it meant in English in italics?  That was done later on.  Otherwise excellent, and I neither know nor care about tennis!

Really loved this book. I personally feel that this one is up there with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

I really enjoyed reading about Carrie. She quite an unlikable person but I loved her. I loved her coldness, her drive, her ambition. I loved the discussions about age and woman in sport and how it can be so different for men. It felt really natural to explore these topics in this book, not shoehorned in.

I loved the tennis matches and everything, though I could see it being too much for some people.

I enjoyed the journey that Carrie went on. Not just getting physically fitter but the mental side too. The help her father and Bowe was sweet and I love them.

Great book.
