Despite some just over the top sequences, a fun thriller.

Kaitlin is investigating a murder that her father was unable to solve. She is looking into the cold cases to see if there is anything they missed.

Upfront I will say that psychological thrillers are not my cup of tea, so my review might be skewed that way.

It is neat how the author gives the perspective of both Ackerman the Prophet. I did think he might try to murder her. I thought it might be a cop doing the murders. I didn't think it is a copy cat. I was not sure why he didn't murder anyone for 20 years. The book itself is just ok.

I thought that Deriline must be in on it. It is possibly her husband. And maybe they stopped because of the kids. Next I thought it was definitely Bart Fletcher, but then second guessed myself because it would be too easy.

I thought it was odd that Titus wasn't introduced as a minor character earlier, especially since his partner was. I was expecting him to try to kill Kaitlin. I thought when her Dad got involved he would die. Sean seemed like he would get dragged in because he was close to her.

Even though it was mostly predictable, I thought the twist at the end was interesting with the partner. Though I looked and there's more books, so there would have to be a partner.

I thought it was easy to read and I liked the weaving in of Dante's Inferno. Though it reminded me that I really don't like these books.

The Unsub provides readers with a glance at what it's like to be on a team hunting down a serial killer, this book gives me a what if Criminal Minds were a book vibe. In this first instalment of a series, we follow Caitlin Hendrix (a narcotics detective) as she joins the homicide team to hunt down The Prophet (also known as, The Zodiac Killer). The Prophet has been terrorizing the East Bay area since the '90s but never was caught.

I loved the personal connection that Caitlin has to the cases, her father Mack was the lead investigator on the original case. Sadly, the killer was never caught, leading Mack to spiral and attempt suicide, the killer has been dormant for 20 years, but when a similar killer returns, the team wonder's if the prophet is back or if they have a copycat on their hands.

This book hit the ground running, your attention is captivated within the first few pages and you do not want to put it down. The level of detail and realism put into this book is amazing! So much detail, I will admit, the murders are very graphic and gory - so this book may not be for everyone. The imagery is very intense and as a reader you want the killer to be brought to justice.

The book ends on a cliffhanger, and you want to immediately pick up the next one to find out what happens with Caitlin.
