Interesting premise. Extremely confusing action scenes, taking place in hover ships that are never explained, so you have no idea what's going on. Child was nothing more than a master key to do no more than unlock doors on command. Secondary and less characters were disposable or very one dimensional. Lots of world building left out, making it very confusing and hard to relate or become immersed in.

I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed every single part of this novel. The characters, the universe, the plot- all of it had me longing to listen to the audiobook all in one sitting. I highly look forward to reading the sequel!

I enjoyed this book, which is set in a well-imagined dystopian future, although the writing felt a bit clunky at times. It takes a new approach to the old theme of an over-populated Earth with resources stretched beyond its limits - and manages to squeeze in a love story along the way.

LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT!

You did it again, K.F. Breene!

I've been a fan of K.F. Breene since her Darkness series, I fell in love with each of those characters. So I was quite excited when I found out about her new series, Finding Paradise. I already knew that I'd take quickly to this one and sure enough, it didn't take long. I was only a couple of chapters in and I was hooked!

Millicent ... Millie ... Cupcakes ... Baby Cakes ... Ryker, you're hilarious with the pet names for Millicent. Where to begin? Millicent, she's definitely one of a kind in this series that way in the future. In many eyes, she's perfect, beautiful, extremely smart and she can do some pretty amazing things that you'll just have to find out for yourself.

She gets a rare chance to breed a child because of who she is, which is just another thing to wrap your mind around. Living in a world where you need permission to breed. But once the child is born, after a year, Millie will have to say her good-byes to her daughter. Like a mother should, she becomes attached to her daughter and refuses to let her go. Millie won't let that happen and she's getting ready to run, with her daughter in hand.

With her daughter, Marie, being made from super genetics, she has a special ability that hasn't been seen. And because of that, she's definitely someone a "corporate-controlled future" doesn't want to let go of. It makes you wonder what extent this world would go to, to keep Marie.

And then there's hilarious, rule-breaker and exceedingly handsome, Ryker! Breene, I love the men in your books! Like Millicent, he's got it all too. The head of the security and always seems to be where Millie is. But when it comes the time for Millie to follow her plan of escaping, there's no way that Ryker will let her do it on her own. He'll do anything to protect them both. Aww ... swooning.

And that's when the exciting and action-filled journey begins ... with an unlikely "friend" in tow, which you all will love because he just adds a whole different level of humor to the story. He's definitely a "Charles" (from the Darkness series) in this one.

They have so much to get through to reach their "paradise". But how long will it last? Can't be safe forever ...

I'm so eager to read the next one, which we already have a synopsis for! This was such a great start to this series and I loved how Breene is bringing us a different world to think about, where society relies heavily on science and technology. And the lack of humanity. It looks like a bleak world, but for them I think the future will hold plenty once they get through it all. I look forward to reading more about what will happen to Millie, Ryker and Marie's utopia. I'm happy to have found a new series that I'll love!

This is a dystopian romance novel. It has the the typical high action plot pitting a small group against the all-powerful establishment. I enjoyed all the technology and world building. The tension and action builds up quickly and keeps building throughout the book. Never slowing down until the very end.

For romance we are given a smart, uber-alpha, big muscled, trained to fight hero with that hidden soft spot we all love to see our h bring out. She is a tough lady too. Very smart yet innocent. The role she is forced to play shows us a huge heart. She has to deal with new feelings that confuse her but never deter her. These two lock horns time after time and their one-upmanship and snarky dialogue is a lot of fun to read.

I think Amazon may have misrepresented this book as sci-fi. Even though dystopian is science fiction, it is a specialized sub-genre. Add to that a very strong romance theme and you end up with a novel that doesn't really fit into the sci-fi category.

In my opinion, anyone reading this book as a romance would enjoy it much more than anyone reading it as science fiction.

Me...I guess I got really lucky because I read sci-fi as well as romance. I even read the occasional sci-fi romance. But my very favorite is the dystopian sub-genre. Most of those are YA. This one is definitely NOT YA. It has it all. Violence, strong language, and sexual situations.

If you're looking for an adult dystopian with a strong helping of romance, give this one a try. I really enjoyed it. I listened to the Audible version which has excellent narration by Angela Dawe.

Not Bad

I really liked the concept of the book and I was deeply invested until chapter 20 and then I wasn't as invested. I won't be purchasing the next book but this one wasn't bad.

Fate of Perfection was a Kindle First choice and it felt very much like the regular offerings from Amazon's program. Meh, it was okay. Overall, chaotic and overly quippy in regards to almost every aspect of this book. An enjoyable concept and intriguing attack of the conflict, but I don't know that this is a book I'd really recommend. I'm completely uncertain on whether I'll read the rest of the series or not.

We begin with and never stray from rather messy setting descriptions. There are apparently endless generic rooms, vehicles (i.e., spacecrafts and the like), doorways, and exits. I felt like the entire book took place in several of those overly used TV or movie warehouses with the run-of-the-mill set-up for a hallway, a laboratory-like room, and a nonspecific futuristic mode of transportation.

In these common settings, Breene treated the reader to action upon action, which was generally written fairly well. However, there were some spots where they became blockbuster-esque chaotic and felt almost never-ending.

The plot is pretty straight forward, aided by the heavily draped Sci-Fi foundation, which (thankfully) never gets mired down in technical or fanciful details. But, it does get a bit murky in the middle and the plot slows down a little. It felt as though the length of the book was stretched a little thin here to fit into bigger britches. In fact, the more people they meet, and the more interactions they have as they travel from place to place in a constant hurry, only seems to lead to increasingly stilted dialogue.

The main irritants here in this wash were the faulty characterizations. Frankly, all the characters felt rather flat and static. Beautiful geniuses unwittingly create superior human together.

Millicent Foster is, by reputation, hard and cold, but there's a squashy underbelly she hides—I'm told. Breene never quite manages to get Millicent there on the page through her actions, it's simply just explained that despite the fact she creates ultimate fighting weapons (both physical and chemical for mind control), she doesn't quite have the heart for it.

Then we have Ryker Gunner. The other half of the duo whose genetics made him a genius and a perfect Captain Caveman protector to his family circle (or something), and also created a superior human being—their daughter, Marie.

Given the current state of affairs, and the sheer number of sexual harassment, assault, and the like cases coming to light (finally), I had a hard time digesting and/or ignoring Ryker Gunner’s sexual quips as anything but distasteful, mindless, and unnecessary. Cupcake, princess, etc. thrown about like this was a gangster movie from the 30's or 40's and Millicent was his moll. It was eye-rolling irritating, at the least.

The story was uneven, patchy, and slightly messy. While parts were enjoyable, some of the necessary pillars were missing to holdup elements of the plot. For instance, there’s a lot of cocky talk thrown around about these two geniuses taking down all the conglomerates, but I just don’t see the drive there from either of them. Yes, I recognize their intense desire to get away and save themselves and their daughter, but taking down the entire structural setup? There just doesn’t seem to be enough from these two for me to believe they’ve decided to take everything down. At least not at this juncture.

Read it for a 3rd time

Human population is at an all time high. The world is slowly taken over by 3 major companies that control every aspect of life, even reproduction. This book follows a mother willing to do anything to protect her child from this messed up system.

Love it! She did it again

Great new series! It has everything you expect from K.F. Breene. Action, love, snark and more!! I cannot wait for the next book
