This collection of short stories is narrated by Hastings and follows Poirot across many locales and many different kind of mysteries. The mysteries are quick, easily solved by Poirot, but I appreciated the closer look in to more of his "everyday" life. It definitely makes him feel more like a real detective; not every case can be a complicated, thrilling, and dramatic mystery with different twists and turns. Each story here is straightforward, with the obvious answer most likely being the answer. Though not in any way thrilling, I did appreciate the glimpse into the mundane life of a detective that these stories give...even if they also meant more of Hastings's jealous comments to Poirot.

I wish I would have skipped this one. I’d much rather sink my teeth into a full-fledged Poirot novel instead of a collection of short stories. I kept hoping that the stories would all tie together somehow... but they never did. 3/5 stars.
