This was actually a pretty good novella for the whole series. Its nice to see a bit more background on the girls, as well as see some of the perspectives of a few of the more adult characters. It was fun.

I actually preferred this to the first book, which is funny enough. This was obviously way shorter, but it held my interest a lot better.
I was glad to finally receive a little bit f backstory with regards to the history of the queens and the island. I think there's still a lot of gaps left that need to be filled. Hopefully, that comes later in the series.
I felt for the queen here, who was different than those before her and wanted more for her life and the future queens. I wish we would have spent more time with her because I think she would be a very interesting and dynamic character.
I also liked the ending because it revealed some answers to the plottwist in the first book. I was surprised to find out that information, mainly due to the intent behind it. I'm intrigued to see whether or not it will pay off in the end though.
As for the younger years of the sisters, I think this was actual better than the earlier chapters of the first book. I found their personalities a lot stronger and refreshing here to see how they interacted and then how they reacted to having to be separated.
