Classic. Loved it when I was a kid. My toddler loved it now. Not much of a plot, but lots of cool drawings of dogs and vehicles, both of which my toddler loves.

A very fun book for new readers.

A childhood favorite that I bought for my children to enjoy and to help with learning to read. We all enjoy it and still come back to this comfort food of a story periodically. ❤❤

I loved this book when I was wee!

A classic that many learn to read with and it is the first book I remember reading by myself.

This is one of my favorite books---was as a child and was as a mom, too. Do you like my hat? No, I do not like your hat. And that dog party in the tree top is still some of the best book art that always makes my imagination fly.

A favorite from my own childhood, shared with my own child and then the students in my preschool class. Some of the drawings are so detailed I am still seeing new things on the 100th reading. Love it!

This book is at the perfect level for my kindergartner, with a good combination of sight words and phonetic awareness. I didn't give it more stars because there is no story. It is a random assortment of dogs doing different things. So while it helps him learn to read, I'm not sure that it encourages a love of or interest in reading as much as other early readers.

I received this book for my 50th birthday, so I'm a wee bit older than the intended reader.

The giver had read it in her youth and bade me read it now with the knowledge that it is, "a frank, unvarnished commentary on societal norms and a primer about what one can expect to find in the world around us and how to respond to it."

Indeed it is. I now know that the answer to the question "Where am I going?" is, of course: "To the tree! To the tree!"

One of my fave children's books. Even to this day there will be random dialogue in our house of "do you like my hat, no, I do not like your hat........ goodbye." It's a classic.
