Rating: 2.5 stars

I didn’t like this as much as the other Christie I read recently (Cards on the Table) but it was still pretty good. Maybe I'm giving it a middling rating solely due to comparison, but eh.

It was so nice to be back with Poirot and Hastings again! I love Agatha’s style in this one - the dry wit and humor really comes through. I didn’t guess the culprit but alas! With Poirot I rarely seem to. I had stopped reading Poirot for a while because they were getting repetitive but this one hit at the right time. Loved it.

A rare one where I guessed the culprit! I guess Ms. Christie lobbed us a clue with "the type of murder."

3.5 - as usual, I liked the book and didn’t see the twist BUT the plot got quite formulaic by the halfway point.

Poirot and Hastings visit x, then they visit y, then they visit z, etc. I did love the dog’s “voice” though, and the ending was sweet. And the gentle ribbings from Hastings were pretty funny.

All in all, a good book, just a little repetitive.
