This three volume collection is really terrific. The quantity and quality is absurd for the price. I can’t believe how much awesome content you get for the same price you’d pay for a coupe of trade paperbacks from Marvel or DC.

I was wondering how they would handle the epistles since there are huge sections of the New Testament that don’t really lend themselves to a graphic novel treatment (no dialogue or narrative). They did a good job of illustrating the content and telling the stories of the authors and showing their historical context at the same time.

I want to give this 5 stars, but I don’t think I can on this final volume. All three volumes utilize a handful of artists, and that wasn’t so much of a problem in the previous volumes where characters changed frequently, but in this one you get many different versions of Jesus, Paul, and the disciples and each artist renders them differently. This happens in all comics, but spider-man has his iconic costume no matter who is drawing them. Trying to figure out who Peter or Paul is can be a little more tricky. Thankfully Jesus usually gets his trademark blue sash to make things easier.

The book of Revelation is wild. They leaned HEAVILY into a horror aesthetic and every word is illustrated literally. The drawings are nightmare inducing and I’m sure the eschatology will be likewise for some people.
