Even though the book is set in the middle of things, it manages to have a very defined arc on its own. Very strong continuation and adds to the themes of the previous book - managing to feel even more hopeless, and damaging what little hope remains something fierce.

In the preface, Sanderson notes the pacing issues his original manuscript had. He may have improved upon it, but the pacing issues were very prevalent in the last 1/3 of the book. It left me a little wanting, it negatively impacted the emotional arc for me, but did not take away from the heart of the book, which was still wonderful and deeply affecting.
