Love this author. Enjoyed this book on audible! This is book 3 in a series and it tied everything up...I had a different ending in mine though!

Monroe is a strong storyteller.  She spins a tale that is easy to engage in.  I think the narration could be improved so that it is more consistent.  It sounded like narrator changed in this book for individual characters.  Also, sometimes the accent was "off." Though this series is historical some of the content didn't fit the era. Great story though.

Made it through. There was actually a climax in the story. Book 3 was an okay read.

1. The narrators did a good job; four star performances.

2. Overall I enjoyed the premise of the series, however, there was constant redundancy in books two and three. The author could have finished the series in two books.

3. I did not particularly like any of the characters. Odell and Milton were awful husbands and human beings. Joyce and Yvonne also had their flaws, but they were more tolerable characters.

Melvin and Yvonne and Odell and Joyce become fast friends. Odell has scheming issues such as blackmailing and bootlegging. Melvin and Yvonne are greedy. What will happen when all they collide? This was an interesting read. I did not know the backstory. This is a series and I will have to go back and read the other books. There were a lot of twists and turns. This story was drama-filled. I have never read this author before but I want to go back and read the others in the series. I love the book cover. I give this a four-star review.

This is the third and final book in the series, and I have to say I felt this was the best one. The couples Milton and Yvonne, Joyce and Odell are still neighbors, but a lot of drama happens and secrets revealed, and I was not expecting it to end like it did. I'm still shocked at what happened. What a surprising and fitting end to this series.
