*heavy sigh* Wow, this was not fun to read. At all.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!
I wanted to give this a try because it promised me a slow-burn historical romance with a supernatural edge--who wouldn't want that? The premise seemed interesting and the art was good, so I decided to give it a shot.
And that was a mistake.
First and foremost, my biggest complaint is with the obnoxiously repetitive dialogue. Here's an idea: take a shot every time Miyo is inner monologuing about her horrible upbringing or talks about how useless, uninteresting, and a burden she is. On second thought, don't do that, because you'll have to be sent to the ER for alcohol poisoning within the first chapter. This volume absolutely LOVES to bash the reader over the head with how terrible Miyo's upbringing was, how awful the people around her are, and how miserable she is. Now, if you're thinking to yourself, "well, why didn't you stop reading after the first chapter?" the answer is, because I thought it would get better.
It did not.
Miyo becomes slightly more comfortable around...oh shit, what was his name?...ummm...the main guy, whatever his name was. And he becomes slightly less of an asshole by the end, but then HIS inner monologues are all about how miserable she is and speculating on how she must have been treated to become this walking embodiment of misery and suffering. So, congratulations! Now you get TWO inner monologues about how terrible her life is/was, AREN'T. WE. LUCKY?!
The only reason why I'm giving this two stars instead of one is because it's not the worst thing I've ever read. It's just woefully depressing, irritatingly repetitive, and featuring some of the most boring romance leads I've seen since Waiting for Spring. If you want to read this, go ahead, clearly I'm in the minority here considering all the glowing reviews it's received. But I'm not bothering to read more, there are much better romance manga out there.

Still sobbing just the same as I did with the anime 😠I’m a sucker for a good slow burn with a tragic story

Feels very mid. Wasn’t entirely drawn to the characters but not disgusted by them either. Not sure if I will continue with the series but glad to give it a shot!
