I wish it was longer pieces, even if the book was 400 pages. I enjoyed reading Beth's story and her approach. The pieces just didn't connect.

Great series, great book. Walter Tevis was ahead of his time. Beautiful social commentary and great representation of addiction, masterful writing and characters that you want to root for.

This book was beautifully written and difficult to put down. The Netflix series was pretty true to the book and I feel like most of the changes they made were for the better considering Beth’s age throughout the story.
I definitely did not expect there to be sexual assault between two minors in the first 15 pages. It was about a page and a half.

1. Unlike the (superior) show, the book does not evoke any emotions.
2.  The sexual assault scene in chapter one really put me off, I did not expect that at all and certainly not from Jolene.

Utterly brilliant writing and such a gripping narrative. I found myself unable to escape Beth’s head even when I wasn’t reading. As a fan of the Netflix show, the book was even better (as is often the case). Unfortunately the harmful racial stereotypes applied to Jolene’s character made this fall short of 5 stars for me.
