This was a weird book. Not bad for say - just weird. Typical Christopher Moore in my opinion. It was all over the place. Silly? yes. Confusing? Yes. Bizarre? Yes. I liked the characters, but the story was just a bit too hard to follow to make it enjoyable for me.

Initially not my favorite Christopher Moore (and I am a big fan), but finished strong.
I usually love Christopher Moore, but this one was kinda boring. The storyline sounded good, but neither of the main characters were likeable, and they weren't really well developed, either. There were a few parts that made me smirk, but this book definitely fell flat compared to some of his other books.

I was overall annoyed with this book. The main characters didn't feel consistent, and seemed to be all over the personality spectrum. The pacing wasn't consistent either. It would bounce from slow to fast without any real reason or attempt to help things make sense. There was a lot of hinting towards there being an AIDS epidemic, which just ended up coming across as a very heavy-handed way of trying to talk about the current issue of the time and yet not saying anything meaningful. The ending was pretty unsatisfying, too. The one character I liked, who also seemed to be well liked by basically everyone in the city, got a pretty unceremonious blow-off in the end. There were a lot of dry jokes and witty comments, but the delivery was always just a little off. Overall, I'm not inspired to read any of the others.
I read this book in one day, simply because I could not put it down. I laughed so hard, Christopher Moore is a brilliant man and I simply must recommend this book to every single person out there who loves a good laugh.
