“Few can foresee whither their road will lead them, till they come to its end.”

There’s just something about Tolkien right? They don’t make ‘em like they used to. I am learning to appreciate his ability to write in depth about the small things in life. The imagery and the world building are like no other. LOTR is fantasy but in a league of it’s own. I am also trying to instill this appreciation into my boys as we buddy read this together and teach them that it’s not always about swords and action that make a book worth while, it’s about what’s going on inside the hearts and minds of the characters- the writers ability to transport and make you think. They are enjoying this experience, ultimately it’s a memory we are making together and I love that aspect the most. Looking forward to the final book!!

Reminded me again why I love the hobbits, and Faramir. And why I disliked the moves 😔

I really enjoyed this book! I’m honestly surprised how different the personalities and choices were compared to the movie. The book is more consistent and goes into more detail than the movie, but I’m not going to lie sometimes the book seemed to drag. Or maybe it was just me wanting to move along faster through scenes that I already knew about. I think I would have enjoyed this book so much more if I never saw the movies first, and goodness that cliffhanger would have killed me! Also, Sam and Frodo are so much better in the book!! For that reason alone, I think everyone who is a fan should read this!
