This book would have been a 5/5⭐️ If not for a few small details.
1. I didn’t like how Kat seemed to have a negative opinion about the porn Industry as a whole, along with having a negative opinion that Tristen did porn. It seemed like even though she didn’t say anything outwardly negative she never thought anything Positive. I didn’t like it and wished she had been more supportive. It was talked about like it’s was sad that he did porn, and that he should be shameful. When he felt badly about his profession she never consoled him…and I hated that. I hated that the “solution” was for him to quit. He never explicitly said that he hated his job, so it should have been a conversation. If porn was something he enjoyed he shouldn’t of been expected to give it up. And she never even questioned it. She was so happy he gave it up for her as if his Career was the equivalent to a bad drinking problem. It was his job and his Career and she never asked if he enjoyed it, she just assumed it was inherently negative.
2. Omg I hated the fact that it felt like every woman in the book was called a slut, whore, hoe, multiple times. (Like literally every other chapter if not more, it was overused and got annoying) The amount of slut shaming in this book is insane. Even comments made towards their bodies. It felt the opposite of women supporting women. Like I understand that she’s jealous but real women know that making fun of another girl for her body count, profession, physical attributes (ESPECIALLY GENITALIA - which is incredibly stigmatized and a huge societal issue) is fked up…
Ex: “Some gonorrhea-infected sluts might try to kiss him or grab his bubble butt. Women with loose, flapping pussy lips that were capable of clapping would try to hug him and whisper suggestive things in his ears.”- Excerpt From: Lingus
Other than these things this book really was amazing. It could have been perfect if it weren’t for these details, but these are (to me) a big deal. This could have been a wonderful feminist + porn industry educational piece while also being a romance, but it clearly missed the mark. The story was very enjoyable and I loved Justin’s character. 3.25/5🌶
