audiobook review

What a fun concept! I love that four fierce female thriller authors each writing one of the main characters in Young Rich Widows. Add in the 1980s setting, and it was an immediately on my TBR.

I loved the balance of drama, eighties references, and blooming friendships. I'm not always attracted to thrillers involving corporate greed, but this set up had me itching to press play!

While I waited until I received my physical copy, I wanted to to listen to this on audio as it was originally an Audible Exclusive. I loved all of the narrators including some of my favorites Ariel Blake and Karissa Vacker. They all gave great performances and fit each of their characters well.

I'm excited to see what this team comes up with for the next Widows book!

Rating: I really liked it! (4)

This was such a cool idea & fun to read, but I ended up feeling underwhelmed.

I loved the 80’s setting and had so much fun reading about the OTT & campy lifestyle of these four ladies.  The ladies were entertaining & I enjoyed seeing them pull together.  However, I did feel that it took too long to pick up the pace & get the action started.  So much so that it felt too little too late.

Thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark & NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Good story, unexpected twists but not as rivetting as other thrillers.

What an entertaining read!
It starts off with four law partners on a plane that is going down. It also has some of their thoughts in their last moments.
See in 1980’s in Providence, RI, the women are told they are now widows. If that wasn’t enough, they also find out the law firm is mafia-affiliated!
Much to their dismay, the widows need to work together to get the four million they owe the mafia and find out what else they want from them.
They had their own chapters and it was so entertaining to read their drama and conversations.
An over the top mystery references to the 80s.

This was a free audible book. It started pretty well, and the performers do a good job. Unfortunately the pacing is way off: way too slow for the first two thirds and then a bunch of mostly weak twists in the last third. And also some huge plot holes

When a private plane full of partners from a law firm goes down, you'd assume their widows would inherit some pretty life insurance amounts... not four million dollars worth of problems...

Young Rich Widows takes place in the 80s and the setting helps the story feel not so "over the top" - you've got lawyers making possibly shady deals, mobsters taking care of their territory, and hitmen working for who again? It's seriously a wild ride - I loved the widow's coming together, putting aside their differences and working together, and solving a big mystery in the midst of their grief.
My biggest qualm without giving anything away? The person who was helping the bad guys... that was disappointing and felt unnecessary!!! The authors could have given us any other big surprise and I bet I could have gotten on board with it.
This one came out in 2022 as an Audible original and I'm tempted to give it a listen to see how the narration compares to reading!
