Very short and sweet little graphic novel. I enjoyed stepping into the literal ~ghost town~ Thummler created and the creativity that went into her world-building. While the art style wasn't my favorite, I adored the color palette Thummler used and the super '90s vibe it evoked in Marjorie's sleepy town.
While the visuals were lovely and the plot-line cute, the story didn't feel as fully realized as it could have been. Many of the characters have very flat and singular personalities. Their roles propel the plot, but they don't give a lot of substance to the overall story.
Still a cute and fun read though! Reading was such a breeze, I might as well give the new sequel, "Delicates," a try as well.

But this place is home, baby. And once you have that, there's nowhere you'd rather be.
Not my cup of tea, honestly.

The story is very simple, but it dallies at the beginning and the ending felt too rushed. However, the art style is beautiful and makes up a bit for what the plot is lacking.
Thank you Netgalley for access to this book in exchange for a review!
Sheets is a graphic novel about a girl named Marjorie, who is running her family's laundry business on her own, and Wendell, a ghost of a boy who died young. Marjorie's business is struggling to stay open, especially after the death of her mother, and a greedy developer forcing his way to buy their business is not helping. We see Marjorie try to balance her school, personal, and work life, which is difficult for someone who is 13, but she manages.
Until Wendell.
Wendell wants more from his after life. Not content there, and dealing with the mental scars of his death, Wendell breaks ghost law to travel to the human world, where he decides to try to help Marjorie.
This is a very slow book, but it pulls you in, The glimpse we get into the ghost world is fascinating and I would love to see more about it. Wendell was the more interesting character also. He knew he was dead, but still had his childhood energy about him. Marjorie's story was a good look at how hard things can be after the loss of one parent and the other seeming to struggle with depression. While her story is not as interesting as Wendell's, and her "villain" was just too comical, I still felt drawn to her and hoped she would find some form of freedom.
Overall a slow burn read, dull in some parts but a fascinating read in others.

Picked this up thinking it’d be a light read, but I ended up feeling so connected to the characters, especially Marjorie. It’s quiet, a little sad, but full of heart. And the ghost? Cutest thing ever. The art style is soft and dreamy and so pretty! If you love gentle, heartfelt stories with a little bit of spooky cuteness, you might wanna read this one. This graphic novel honestly felt like a warm hug on a tough day.
