The Raven Cycle has been all over my Instagram feed and I finally decided to check it out. I don’t know what I expected to see, but what I read blew my mind. The Raven Boys is amazing and an excellent introduction to the series (which consists of this book and its sequels: “The Dream Thieves”, “Blue Lily, Lily Blue” and “The Raven King”)

Blue, one of the main characters, is the daughter of a psychic and lives in a household filled with psychic women. Blue herself is not psychic, but has the ability to amplify the energies of other people which is especially helpful to psychics. Blue lives near Aglionby Academy, a very wealthy private school for boys. The students of this school are referred to as the Raven Boys, and Blue has severe distrust towards them due to her own upbringing. However, she finds herself entangled with the paranormal quest of a certain group of Raven Boys and her life takes a sharp turn.

I absolutely loved the characters in this book. Though I felt like Blue’s character was overshadowed by the Raven Boys, she was still great and I wish we’d gotten more from her in this particular book. Gansey immediately became my favorite Raven Boy because of how he’s basically an old man in a teenage boy’s body. I also really like Adam, who is not as outspoken as Gansey but has a lot within him that makes him super compelling. We didn’t get to learn much about Ronan or Noah, who are both very different from each other but similar by how mysterious they are.

I always found myself wanting just pages of characters interacting with each other because it’s so fun to see their personalities and conversations in the spotlight, even if it might deviate from the plot. This book is so enjoyable and has a plot that is both simple and complex at the same time, and will leave you wanting so much more.

I haven't had time to write this review until now but I really enjoyed this book!
I absolutely loved the writing the author had a very creative and unique way of wording things which made me super happy. I think the beginning dragged a bit and it took me a bit to actually get through it but it was never actually bad just more slow paced. The character dynamics were glorious. I love a good found family and I also thought everyone was really funny and overall very solid first book I am so excited to get crushed by this series later :D
