I struggled with the format of this book initially as it’s all in messages and emails but once I got into it I really enjoyed it and found it easy to read! The story was great, lots of twists and turns

I am utterly obsessed with everything Janice Hallett and I am yet to be disappointed with one of her books. The format of this includes emails, text messages and essays and was a really interesting way to follow this story and see how it unravelled. I can say with absolute certainty that I had no idea how it was going to end, and my thoughts and predictions changed so many times over the course of the book. It was a really interesting read and I didn’t want to put it down! Would absolutely recommend!

*2.5? i'm not sure about this. it feels so unfinished? like there were not enough twists?
also, i will butcher many a name's spelling here because i only listened to the audiobook.
i liked jem as a character (not as a person) and i enjoyed.following her figuring things out. i was intrigued as long as there were no real twists yet.
i'm not sure whether i think the way disability was discussed and used as a plot device / big twist here is well done, but i certainly was surprised and the clues to that twist felt well placed. where it all went south for me was the big arms of mass destruction plotline and then the mostly bad and murderous climate activists. also, i didn't understand the ending. is patrick the big boss? (most unrealistic thing about this, i know no climate action organisation with an official hierarchy, kinda defies the purpose of like everythimg they stand for). it's just quite obvious the author knows little about climate activism and their actual concerns/ways they operate - sleeper cells my ass, they aren't nazis. the most realistic thing about it was their harsh sentences.
somewhat unsatisfying. i feel like i missed something crucial.
