2023 has been a lucky year for my horror reading. I mean, yes I have read only 5 horror books so far but I did not hate any of them, so that's win. Anyways, let's talk about this particular book.
This book received polarizing reviews on the goodreads. So,I was little scared to try the book out, yet I gave it a chance. The audiobook version was available on Youtube. So,I decided to download it and that served me well.
The book gripped me from the prologue alone, and never left my mind until I finished it. The book was not anything near masterpiece but the audiobook made out a big deal of it. Whoever has narrated the audio(sorry I am a little lazy to search the name) deserves a big raise in work.
The voice changing gave me goosebumps and chill at night. The voice alone could give me nightmare, as how hauntingly fascinating it was!
The book was divided into four parts and while the length of the book was fine, I wish the setting -the snowy woods and lonesome cabin -had been explored a bit more. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and didn't really care about the main character either but only the monster out there. I guess, that say something about the main leads.
The ending was a bit underwhelming and I felt like all the suspense and adrenaline built up during the story was wasted. I expected a better explanations for the mystery of '5'. But who am I to judge the journey by the destination?
Anyways, go for the audiobook if you are interested. The book might seem repetitive and bore you out but audiobook is a timesaver. Wish you a good spooky reading. May this book scare the shit out of you. Well,is not what a horror reader expect?
P.S -Absolutely wild thought of mine but how cool it would be to have a pet monster like it.
I know, this is nightmare talking 🤭😂 but I like the thought.

Main characters Felix and Faye are going on a nice get away at their parents cabin in Pale Peak because they’re recently engaged. But somethings not right in the mountains of Pale Peak… Ominous sounds in the woods, animals, cries of children and voices. What they face is shocking.
Thoughts:
I loved this book. It essentially dove into the story right away and I found there was no clutter to it. Everything said has a purpose and impact on the story. This book was well written.
Let me just say I’m definitely too spooked to be alone in a cabin now. It was the right amount of scary, the right about of suspense, enough lightness at moments and the right amount of what the fuck.
I felt such sympathy for what they went through, both Felix and Faye… but I treasured the love Felix has for Faye and how he devoted so much of himself to protect her at all costs. My heart sank later in the book finding out what had happened to some of the other character (no spoilers!!)
100% recommend this one!!

I think it got a little repetitive after a while and thought the 2nd half wasn't as strong as the 1st but overall I really enjoyed it.
